Space between fuel tank and bulkhead?

  1. Hey all,

PO fitted the Justkampers twin Weber 34ict EMPI conversion. The throttle linkage is pants! The throttle cable is attached to roughly the centre point if a 16mm hex ally bar that is about 1 meter long and only supported at each end where it mounts on the carbs. As a result the bar initially flexes considerably when the throttle pedal is pressed which means the pedal travel is not enough to get full throttle and the carb balance is variable.

To fix this I have bought a sealed needle bearing in a cast pillow mount and I am going to machine the middle of the EMPI throttle link bar to fit it. I then need to brace the bearing against the firewall that separates the fuel tank from the engine compartment. Please can anyone tell me how much clearance there is between the bulkhead and the tank? Can I drill it in situ without the risk of puncturing the tank if I am careful?

    Cheers,
    B

  2. Yes you can. Just stop as soon as the drill is through.

PS You might want to fit a CSP bell-crank job, rather than persevere with the EMPI Pants Linkage.

  3. Great, thanks Snotty. Good call about the CSP, it looks far better than the EMPI rubbish.

  4. The EMPI thing really is pants - I got one with some eBay ICTs I bought, and it went in the bin. I can't see how the carbs could stay in synch with that tat fitted.

The CB Performance centre pull thing is much better made, but I'd say the CSP bell crank is a better investment...a bit pricey but simple and very well made. I think it'd work with ICTs (i.e. two carbs the same).
