I would'nt buy a new car or take a car or buy a single thing from a main dealership ever, do you work hard for your money ? well I do and going to a main dealership is like walking into a fixed card school, cheesey looking suits walking round waiting to sting the next punter who happens to be foolish enough to walk in, hello sir can I help you means pounds in there pockets to laugh about with there poncey mates, go to a pub at teatime and you'll see them in there droves pulling up in there new company mondeos, mercs and bmw's talking bollo*ks to each other and telling the tale at your and my expense, wise up people :) same for double glazing salesmen, insurance salesmen or financial advisers, if you do this for a living, sort your morals out and go get a real job

  4. Pickles is right ,the maindealers consider it christmas when some punter comes in and pays full price for a car ,I got 2k of a new car for the misses,if you buy fleet cars then it`s discount city... 8)

we also got it serviced at the maindealers, but I was always there if any extra cash was involved ,once the dozy mechanic did`nt put enough oil in ,the car came back and the head mechanic told me ,these cars consume oil ,I showed him the dip stick and the speedo with 42 extra miles on and he sunk into the ground... :-[ we got next year service labour free...

but woody, I do agree underneath they are all weasels... ;D

I had a service at Guy Salmon the other week and had a survey sent to me , which gives you an overall experience of 'good', 'very good ', or 'outstanding'.

Service was pretty good so I generously gave them a 'very good'

A few days later get an email addressed to 'Dr Bannister' asking my why my experience wasn't ' outstanding'

I thought, maybe it's because you don't know my name? I ain't a doctor and my name ain't Bannister

Just thought there was a tad of irony in there :)

  6. As you may know I am a service manager and used to work in various dealerships but now I am in the independent side of things for a national used car place. After sales law and sale of goods etc are part of my daily grind. Basically the law states that in the first 3 months the dealer has to warrant any faults. Wear and tear is obviously excluded. This is because it's reasonable to assume that the fault may have been there at point of sale. After 3 months the onus is on you to prove the fault is either progressive or has been there unfixed for a while. A good example is an engine burning oil. The fault is the rings have become gummed up over time and allow oil to pass. Stat rights law will back you for up to 12 months if you fought this in court. As long as you can prove the fault first happened within 3 months or that it your control unit failed due to water ingress over a long period of time you will win any claim.
I have had to fit engines 12 months after sale because of this.
The motor industry has never been under so much pressure and this is a very hot topic at the moment so go and see trading standards.
Also, you do not pay for misdiagnosis. The job card they ask you to sign is your contract. If they job card states diagnose electrical fault and they get it wrong and fit a part that doesn't fix it, you don't have to pay. You also do not pay per hour to train their techs. Set a limit for diag time and question their ability if they can't do it. 4 hours is the max anyone should take or you should consider a different garage.
    Hope this helps a bit.
