Solex accelerator pump delivery?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Flying Pig, Apr 22, 2020.

  1. Hi all , hope your all keeping safe and well ?.
Solex pdsit carb set up .
My left hand carb delivers the fuel in a spray like fashion whereas the right hand carb is more if a flow and drip ? If that makes sense ?.lol . I imagine it would be more of a spray if it was right ?. Which is correct and how can I rectify the problem?. Cheers in advance, Mick

  2. On a single Solex, it's a strong jet. Suggest yours are bunged up, or the diaphragms have gone.

  3. Should be more of a spray, at least both of mine are. The fuel should be atomised rather than a flow or drip so it burns more evenly. Your best bet is to dismantle the carb and blow it out with compressed air.

  4. Cheers for the swift replies fellas . I've just rebuilt them tbh . I'll check out the things you've said . Reckon the new diaphragm may be duff ?. Thanks again.

Or the ball bearing check valve that stops back flow from the pump to the float chamber is stuck.

  8. Hi fellas, I've taken it apart and its covered in what looks like limescale ?
I've blown away all the crud and have it bathing in ultrasonic cleaner . I mustn't of rinsed it off properly before?. I'll rinse it and let the parts dry off in the sun am before assembling. Will update the , cheers !

  9. The white stuff is likely corrosion from water in the carb. Sounds like it needs a good scrub!

  10. Hi , I've had the carb soaking over night and most of the white crud has gone . There are some spots left that I'll scrub out with toothbrush etc .
Hopefully it dries out ok and doesn't return?. Cheers Mick

  11. If it is a light hard water deposit or that sort of thing a bit of vinegar scrubbed in may clean it off, don't forget to rinse thoroughly.

  14. It won’t if no water’s getting in. Usually find it in the float chambers of neglected carbs.

  15. Morning all , how critical are the flat springs that hold the float pivot in place and what is the correct orientation?

If you get it wrong, it behaves like something is holding the float down and it can overflow and fill your sump with petrol, or make it just stop at a junction.
