For sale is my VW Devon Caravette, ‘Daisy’. I have owned her for 18 months and she has provided many miles of trouble-free campervan-ing but she simply doesn’t get used enough*… so I am letting her go. She is largely standard and has many original period features e.g. interior, hub caps, wheels, pop-top, hammocks, petrol flap, steering wheel etc all correct for the year. I am proud to report that all controls, electrics, lights etc work perfectly with nothing known needing doing a time of writing. She starts on the button and drives beautifully. She'll cruise on the motorway at 60/65mph and will overtake many an ugly splitty/earlybay! She underwent a body restoration in 2010 and the previous owners regularly took her to the south of France. She appealed to me mainly because of the originality. Full details: 1973 ‘M’ registration (tax exempt) MOT to March 2016 Lots of history from 1987-present. Regular servicing by specialist garages Original instruction manuals and service record book 2 previous owners (changed hands in 1999 and 2014) Genuine RHD Devon camper conversion M-plate present and correct Original interior, pop-top, hammocks, cooker and sink. Child/baby hammock for the front cab has gone awol Original pressed number plates Original date-stamped steel wheels, professionally refurb’ed 4 very good Firestone Vanhawk tyres Some spares included e.g. bulbs, cables, a good tyre. Camping/dining equipment, jump leads etc in the photos isn't included. There have of course been a few modifications over the years, including: Standard 1.6 Vege recon engine fitted in 2003 which has done 26k miles (odometer shows 142k and history suggests this is correct) Electronic ignition Bottom half colour change to harvestmoonbeige by previous owner who for some reason didn't like orange… Leisure battery to interior lights and some 12v sockets in the rear Modern CD radio and front speakers Volt meter instead of clock in dash (have original clock but it's broken) New love-them-or-hate-them curtains (have originals but they have shrunk) Vented gas locker where the cool-box used to be (was removed because it had split) Electric windscreen washers Period locking petrol cap Rear seatbelts. You can find a comprehensive set of photographs here. Location is near Romsey, Hampshire. Price £13,500 O.N.O. *and I want an MGB.
Very nice bus. I have a 73 Devon too! (and an MGB.!) neither of which is as smart and complete as your bus.
Thank you Is yours a Caravette too? They are quite rare. When I bought it the table was missing and it took me months to find one. In the end I had to spend an entire weekend using white spirit to remove silver spray paint from the one I found, but it cleaned up a treat!
Nice looking bus - good luck with the sale - hope I can get ours to that standard. We have an MG as well as our bus - good luck in your search for a sound one ( bad ones are easy to find - much like VW campers.!)
Sold to a very nice chap called Phil from Yorkshire. I will try and get him to join the forum and post updates as he says he plans to return Daisy to her original orange which is great news.
