So your sitting at a red light

There you are sitting at red traffic light waiting for it to go green and you here two tones and see flashing blue lights in your rear view , , do you go through the red light ( if its safe ) to let the Ambulance/ fire engine / police car past or do you sit tight hoping the lights change soon ,
What have you done , and whats the official line if you get caught on camera

because the law says you shouldn't cross a red traffic signal & they'll do you for it.

I had to move forward against a red light to let a blues and twos through the other day. Yes I was reluctant but it was very obvious they weren't going to go anywhere with me in the way. Besides which it was bloody noisy right behind!
I think it very much depends on the circumstances, pulling out into a fast stream of traffic would be stupid but moving forward and over to one side sufficiently to allow an emergency vehicle through can hardly be a crime.

 

move forward and over if safe, had to do it a few times in car and truck, never had a ticket and i know at least once i was flashed by a camera doing it. if you re gonna stay put how would you feel if you get home and your house has burnt down and that fire engine you held up was on its way to it?????

 

Always move, even if it's a red light. No brainer really. Let the blues and twos get through no matter what.

What kinda sheep would sit still, transfixed by a non-sentient colored light when there is a living intelligent official behind them, experiencing an emergency and signaling for them to make way?!
It is a dark day when a judicial system has a society so spooked that half the people in this thread would choose to make a possible stroke victim wait until the frickin' light turns green. Jeezis! :censored:

I think that the law states that you should obey all traffic signals etc, unless specifically told not to by a police officer - this includes not going through red lights, not entering bus lanes, etc.

There have been people convicted and fined for crossing the red light, even with the fire engine shown in the same red light camera photo. On the other hand, magistrates do have some leeway, apparently.

 

You get outta the way simplez. If possible.
