I got mine done last week, one thing he pickedup was a nylock on the drag link had slackened off.. causing a wee bit of steering play .. How a nyloc slackens off is a mystery... but it did .. so new nylocs fitted all around .. I spoke to him about it and decided that the way forward was just to book it in come MOT time but play the no mot card, basically having him do an MOT check on the van but not logged into the system. An MOT is £55 while his hourly rate is £35 .. so I get him to spend an hour on the check, obtain a written list of any defects and drive off to do the repairs.. but not having to worry about a failure .. I would do the repairs in any case if it needed anyway. who really wants to be driving a death trap.. Bear in mind you still need to maintain the vehicle in a road worthy condition regardless of MOT or not.. I worry for the Marmite that will be used on the road soon.. kinda looks like there engineering the demise of classic cars ... a couple of junk piles create mayhem and its game over... any excuse to get our old tat off the road sooner rather than later.. Personally I give classics a max of 10 years, by which time they will become worthless white elephants .. unfortunately ..
