As the bus is now heated by Propex, I was thinking of removing the snail fan and pipework to tidy up the engine bay.
I know that the tinware holes will need blocking ...... do I need to do the same on the heat exchangers ?

  2. I don’t see you need to block off the heat exchanger outlets. Surely it’s good to have a back up if the Propex plays up.

  3. Can u use your propex on the move?

Used mine for a couple of years, probably longer with no issues.

When you get free heat from the heat exchangers why use the Propex when the engine is running?
The snail fan doesn’t do much unless stationary so you could remove it and simply lose the ability to increase the airflow, alternatively drive with the engine lid closed and forget about it. Don’t stop the air flow through the heat exchangers, assuming you have them, if you do, they’ll get very, very hot.

    snotty and Pony like this.
  6. If you remove the pipes that connect the h/exs to the tinware then I would block off both the tinware holes and the h/ex inlet holes otherwise the engine fan won't blow air as efficiently through the h/exs.
If you leave the connecting pipes in place then you only need to block them at the tinware end.
If you are no longer having the h/exs connected for additional heat (at the outlet end) then you only need to worry about the tinware holes

Think I will leave well alone.
Fitted new repro heat exchangers diverted pods etc about 7 years ago.
Always get a slight whiff from the heater and as both cables have seized and the linkages behind the dash went pop, I just use the Propex as required.
At the moment I've just removed the concertina parts and changed the pods so the exhaust/ hot air is sent towards the floor. Even just doing that makes loads of stuff under van more accessible.
