SLK Space Saver + Underside Mount

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by pchowner, Jan 6, 2015.

  1. Hi

I'm looking at the possibility of obtaining a Merc SLK space saver wheel -

    or VW Toureg spacesaver

    -

both will apparently fit by 75 bay ???

Then looking to mount underside - what your thoughts??

  2. I have the merc one in one of my cupboards, they do fit, i got the wheel and the compressor form a scrap yard for £40 all in

  3. Nice - do you think its small enough to be mounted underside? Obviously I would have to manufacture a bracket / carrier.

  4. Fit a space saver wheel to a Bus..................

  5. I've bought one but haven't got around to enlarging the holes. I plan to throw it ontop of the westie roof rack area

  6. I have the collapsable version, it could be possible, i have never thought to fit it underneath, it was small enough to go in the van.

i did not need to drill the holes or hub as both fitted fine

  7. I think I will go a try one - personally I'd like to mount underside. out of the way. I have 2 kids so space will be a premium

At the moment I have the full size spare in the roof rack, but like to put the my drive away awning up there :)

  8. The central heater pipe underneath will be in the way

  9. as above, you'll need to enlarge the bolt holes i think. also check the nut you'll need, might be different on the merc rim (ball seat/tapered etc).

  10. I was hoping that the wheel would fit on the outside of the chassis against the floor pan. The wheel itself if 15" plus the tyre is around 2" when deflated.....
