Sliding door track cover

  1. IMG_6015.jpeg The bolt that holds the sliding door track cover is loose on my bus, and doesn’t tighten up.

is it missing a nut or does it just screw into the tab on the door catch (whose threads may be stripped)

  2. Stripped thread I think.

Gonna need a bigger bolt? Or pop a nut on the other side if you can?

  3. It was originally a self tapping screw, probably the same as you find on the front belly pan.
Edit: There's one on the other end of the cover also.

The thread was stripped on mine so I used these:

At the door aperture end it’s an m6 bolt as you have , looks like the thread must be stripped

  6. Had a closer look at it just now. Was able to get a helicoil in, just.

It looked like at least part of the reason it may have stripped was the bolt was more than twice as long as it needed to be - the part it locates in has an angled surface and if you screw a too large bolt in, it quickly fouls this surface. The further you screw it in the more the bolt’s direction of travel will be pushed away from vertical, which will then muller the threads it locates in…

Classic job for a rivnut as the metal is really too thin for a helicoil to last in there.
