Tonight's job is to replace the sliding door seal. before I break something can someone talk me through what needs to come off to get the seal over the door & to maximise access. Tools ready, trolley Jack to hold up door, sheets to stop any paint damage, screwdrivers, spray glue & new quality seal. Took two screws of each end of the runner cover but nowts budging. Any help appreciated.
The cover you took the screws out of should life up and out might a little stiff if you haven't done it before mine was. Once that's off you can take the door and slide it along till there is a little slot in the runner and take the door out. Not sure if you have to remove the top roller or not beforehand. Not a mechanic I'm afraid saw it on tele before.
Stiff as a board. Trying to prize it up and loosen it . Even tried taps with a rubber mallet protecting the paint with a cover. New paint job is starting to peal off above the cover. Took a Stanley along the paint line to stop it pealing. If it was an old paint job I'd give it a clout.
get a piece of inch thick timber or similar and wedge it up through the bottom then give the timber a couple of sharp taps with a mallet....repeat along the length....sorted ): worked on both of mine
^this. You'll likely need a length of timber underneath to make the rubber gripper strip let go. Hefty whacks!
and also, to be honest its fairly easy to just deadlift the door once its disengaged.....if you don't have the arm length of an 8 year old and pull it out in a controlled fashion you shouldnt need a jack etc
The not so pretty outcome . Even though I scored the join with a Stanley There was this wee nut & bolt that both turned when I tried to take the nut off. Thread was damaged. Damaged paint at rear. One job off the lost another job added.
I liked it too but sick listening to the Mrs moaning about the indoor water feature when it rained whilst away camping.
No thanks! I've told Jen I'll need to take it away camping myself for a week or so just to make sure it's water tight
