Sliding door operation

  1. Going to try and sort out my sliding door at the weekend but I need to know how the handles operate as they have never worked on the van. Basically I need to know how the inside and outside handle works when the door is shut and open? Also, what way should the inside handle be pointing as at the moment its pointing upwards. Cheers in advance guys. My sliding door has the lock separately if that makes a difference?

  2. Inside handle should be pointing down, outside should be horizontal. On the outside, push down to open. On the inside push forward to open.

When the door is fully open there is a latch that holds it open. This is also released by pushing the handles downwards/ forwards.

On my dad's van, when the door was almost closed you could lift the outside handle upwards (or the inside handle backwards) and it would pull the back of the door in. I've never had one that still does that though.

  3. Cool, I will do a bit of fettling then. Cheers

  4. This was on earlier Bays. Later ones, the door just slammed shut.

  5. somethings to do! vaseline! (cleaner than grease) to the top roller channel, and the bottom roller channel (although grease ok for the lower one), also to the outer slider track (under the removable waistline cover, but you don't need to remove the cover) and make sure you have the nylon slider peice that sits on the rail. Also the sprung elbow mech that springs the door out and supports it, Give that a 'kin good soaking with WD, and work it well in and out then smear vaseline over the joints. Now when I push the handle down , the doors springs out and rolls back.
