Sliding door locking mech

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by pritchdub, Jul 5, 2015.

  1. Having problems with my sliding door. Think I may have accidentally engaged a deadlock but not sure. The door is closed and now the inside handle will move towards the cab but not towards the engine. The engine end of the door has opened but the lock by the handle will not release. Any body got any idea what I may have done?

There is a catch that you flick down to deadlock while inside.
If it's vertical it's in the locked position.

  3. Played with the catch but coming to the conclusion the mechanism is broken. Surprised though as wouldn't think they would fail to often.

  4. Take the door panel off and take a look inside. Not hard to work out how it all works.

If you fiddle around you can unbolt the front catch from the door frame with it shut provided you dont have a fixed unit just inside the door.

On mine the little deadlock latch does not work 99% of the time because of wear in the lock.

  6. Got the panel off the deadlock will not come off when the handle is pulled.

There are two bars poking out of the lock into the striker plate on the B pillar when it is deadlocked.
The deadlock latch stops one of the bars sliding back.
The door will only open if only one of the bars is pulled back then the other one can unhook.
So you may have to unbolt the striker plate from the B pillar. Then you can remove the screws holding the latch from the door and fiddle.

  8. Is it a crossover/early type lock in handle mech or a proper late? ive got a complete door mech for sale if its a late and you dont have any joy with it
