  1. Hi

Just went out to the van to get something and as the title says the sliding door came off in my hand. I dont know why becasue i cant see anything, but can anyone tell me how to put the door back on so it closes?

    Cheers

You have a runner at the bottom and a runner at the top , there is also a rear runner as you can probably see - the top runner goes in first , the bottom runner then slides in at the back of the track , finally the rear runner arm which goes under the cover slots in to it's track in a cut out slot , you may have to take the cover off to do this which should be held in place by two screws .

it's easier if you have help but i can do it on my own .

    i think ?

It's probably caused by the nylon/plastic block on the rear of the door. It'll need replacing. That would be my guess anyway.

My guess is the middle hinge wheel wore through and fell into two halves.
If it's right off inspect the bottom roller too as it should be captive in the track so something must have broken...
If not, side cover off, door 45 degs to van, engage top roller right at the back of the track, then bottom roller, then straighten door, slide forward until nylon block level with notch in track, engage middle roller on track, close door applying whatever pressure needed to make up for broken bits. Might be easier to remove middle hinge first so you can mend at your leisure.

  10. Ive ordered the bit, but i will be picking brains when it arrives about how to replace that

  11. The sliding doors on the unfortunate Kombi's operating as Taxi's in Lagos Nigeria often fell off (due to them being opened and closed every hundred yards or so).

The favourite fix was to weld on steel door hinges, and a padlock hasp for security.
Got really interesting when they hinged it at the back, and went driving with 12 pax or so, and the door half open!! O0

  12. This thread about the sliding door support roller refresh, this one for the sliding door hinge assembly refresh and this one for the sliding door latch refresh on late late Bays might be of use.

I'll be following them when the snow disappears.

Interesting life Colin (amskeptic) leads - he travels all around the US in his bus helping people fix issues on their buses for a fee.

He'd be pikey/peace convoy scum here. God bless America. :)

Seriously though he's a very interesting chap, been doing it for many years. I doubt there'd be enough call for it here.
