Sliding door catches

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by The Drama Man, Mar 25, 2024.

  1. I have a 73 Bay with its original sliding door which has been badly restored and is misshapen. It's the type with the key in the handle

I have a sliding door from a later model year which has the key loch separate from the handle.

They have different striker plate types. Is it an easy job to swap one for the other?

  3. That's what I wanted to hear! Anyone got any late striker plates..?

  5. Oh. That's interesting. Both doors have factory window apertures so I'm confused!

Above is the current door fitted to the bus.
Below is the new door with a convex striker:

Perhaps someone swapped the mechanism on the door itself? I believe I have a striker plate to suit the 2nd mechanism down the workshop if you're after one?

  8. Seems very likely!
I would be up for a striker plate if you have one, James. And I'm Dorset-based too. Are you still in Poole?

Yeap, I'm still in Poole. I'll have a look at the weekend for you.

Mine's a '74 late with factory windows, and it's definitely got the mechanism that you already have on your early style @The Drama Man
If all else fails, could you transfer your original mechanism / striker plate to the newer door?

Unfortunately not - key in handle / Key in door.
