Sliding Door Alignment

  1. Hello,

I'm having a problem with the sliding door (RHD Late Bay) - it sort of tips down slightly on the front edge and hits the top of the B pillar.
I was wondering is it possble to put some shims under the door between the bottom of the door and the bottom roller so as to tip it up (level) it a bit?

Surely VW didn't manage to make the doors and openings so precise that they didn't need some fettling to get them to fit?

    Thanks

VW did indeed make shims for this purpose. You might find though, that if you loosen the two allen screws underneath fairly loose, and the big one on the side a bit loose, then shove the bottom of the door in and hold it there and tighten, the problem could be solved without a shim. They slip over the years. If not enough improvement, get/make a shim and repeat. Don't be tempted to use washers - the load needs to be spread evenly and the door may distort around the fixings.

  3. Thanks Zed - I'll give it a lash tomorrow when I get home from work if it's still daylight.
