Remember watching him as a kid in the 70s, he introduced a lot of people to science and that has to be admired. RIP.
Well me too Owen, but my reaction to him somewhat different. Yes I know it's bad form to speak ill of the dead, but, but, but But I'm waiting until he comes into the Saville enquiry. A very strange man and I wouldn't have left my boys alone with him...
i hope he wasn't - is it just me who is sad that many of our childhood entertainers are now being outed as kiddy fiddlers? if true i know it's wrong but it annoys me how it took so long for it all to come out and it taints your memories - but on the plus side you can spend hours reading some comments on you tube it's dead funny.
My best mate got an equity card when he was 14. It was something he'd set his heart on. I won't tell you exactly how he got it, but he used his mouth and acting skills "came" into it. Things were "different" in the old days. The entertainment industry was a comfy home/living for people who perhaps wouldn't have got on well in a regular job.
Ok. I will say that times have changed a bit. When I was a lad I had a (female) friend about 14, who's hobby was shagging passing pop-stars. Nowadays this might now be seen as paedophilia, but she was well adjusted and knew exactly what she was up to. Also as quoted above mate who was also easy come easy go about life. I was kind of jealous of both of them for their relaxed attitudes. Neither of these people were taken avantage of, yet nowadays anyone they came in contact with would probably be hung drawn and quartered. Like I say things have changed and if I have a pop at Patrick, it's with this sort of thing in mind - I don't judge, I snigger.
I went to one of his lecturers a few years ago. A really nice bloke and a true legend. He will be missed.
