Single speed wipers!!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Austin, Jun 27, 2014.

  1. My old wiper motor had one speed and wouldn't park unless I flicked it back at the right moment!!

Anyway, I wasted the evening changing over the wiper motor thinking that's what it was. And now it wiped marginally better, parks by it's self but still only has one speed!!

What else could it be? The stalk seems ok, all connections seem ok? Have I missed something because I am now tired!!

    Any help wild be cooooool.

    Cheers

  2. Your motor should have two windings/connections to set the two speeds. Inclined to think it's something in the winding. I'd take the motor out and try supplying +12V to each of the speed connections in turn to check whether they both work.

  3. I seem to remember it does the two speeds by there being a connection part way along the armature winding, along with a separate carbon brush. If you've swapped the motor, it doesn't look like the fault is there, more likely in the external connections, but follow Snotty's suggestion to make sure the new one is working.
I presume this is a dual speed motor? Does it also have intermittent wipe?

  4. my faster speed tends to work better when its peeing down n im moving , old wiring n dry joints bit like me i suspect

  5. Meant to say problem in your wiring, not winding!
