Hi all. So I am carrying out rust repairs (lots of) on the LB that I bought as an unfinished project. The previous owner has replaced the sills on the sliding door side (left hand). On looking through the end of the sill should I not be seeing an inner, middle and outer sill? Anyone out there clarify for me. Cheers Stay safe John Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That’s good news then. I was concerned because I couldn’t see that the middle sill went all the way to the bottom to be welded between the inner and the outer. Thanks J Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's how it looks to me. Look along the bottom and you should see the bottom of the repaired (if it was) middle sandwiched between the new inner and outer.
Naughty. Did the previous guy also repair the bottom of the rear arch panel between the sill and the wheel? That would need to come off as well as the outer sill to repair the middle sill. No doubt he'll have covered up the crusty remains of the bottom of the C post as well because if you CBA to repair a sill because you can't see it, odds are same goes for anything he's skinned over. I thought we'd gone past this kind of "repair" nowadays but I guess not.
Very naughty then. What a pain. Bit of unpicking time fo then Thanks for your help and knowledge. Cheers J Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I see that now @zedders take a picture straight in the end , pull the outer sill off they are cheap, weld a plate in the middle sill down to the lower , though depends how much is missing
Pulled the outer sill..... Whoever had been there before had left a nice lip under the track, almost looks like they forgot to put the replacement in, everything else is aok. Very odd. Made the replacement middle sill and weld in tomorrow. Happy days. Cheers J Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Some replacement outer sills have a lip to hold the seal in...and some don't. Maybe, being kind, he left the bit with the seal lip because he got one without. When you order a replacement, be sure to get one with the lip to hold the seal.
