Side window fitting how to

  1. Just in the process of putting the side glass back, is there a how to anywhere on how it's done, I have the seal (new) on the glass, I think I need some thin rope but how and where? Thanks.

  2. You need to lay the rope into the bit of the seal that the lip in the van sits in. Leave a loop at the top/ bottom and the ends loose at the other.

Lubricate the hole in the van.

Offer up the window to the van from the outside making sure the rope ends are all inside. Also make sure any etchings on the glass are the correct way up and facing the right way.

You can be pretty rough with the window now, give it a good smack with some thick gloves on so it sits in a square and far as you can. Get a helper to support window from outside while you climb in.

Pick a rope end and pully firmly, this should pull the edge of the rubber over the metal lip.

Work your way around, you may need to persuade it with some more hand whacking.

  3. I've got some suckers with handles on I can pull on from inside which maake it a bit easier

  4. You might find it helps to start from the top and work down. It's easier for the guy outside to put pressure on, especially with new rubbers and the hand whacking really does help

  5. You'll be amazed how hard you can hit it (no hammers) they'll bend an alarming amount too

  6. Pop the seal in very hot water before you start, it softens the rubber :)

  7. ^^^whs I tried for over and hour on my rear side 2 of us put in in warm water for 15 mins and it popped in straight away

  8. Don't use washing up liquid on the seal it's full of salt and bad for the rubbers
