Funky and standard fare or innovative by design. Weve all come across the quandaries of getting the curtains right. Apart from the patterns and colours and material choices there's also the obvious questions. How do I stop the things billowing out so its private, what to do with the sliding door, Cab..... On the back of @zedders foray into the sewing world its time I sorted mine out. So far my list is: A pair of curtains to the rearmost side rear windows and the back window on Westy style rails with elastics to hold them in at the bottom, press-studs to hold them together and a press-stud half way up at each end! Possibly the same over the cooker unit opposite slider or even a bottom rail (westy style again) to keep em off the worktop. A full length curtain to the sliding door - ie down to the floor (This one will go on silent-gliss, as theres one already fitted which will overlap the rear side window nicely) but also possibly either a poppered or magnetic blind that fits on the door so I've got the option of not having the big curtain there. Cab - undecided but I have silentgliss rails in there so guess that would be easiest, ie two curtains that meet and popper at the front. Anyway - that was tech really but im interested in seeing what you have. (I didn't mention Blinds did I)
Plain black-out material for me - black outside, white inside, but contrasted with colourful tie-backs for that summery feel. I've discovered if you have them westy style fixed top and bottom, you can pull the pesky suckers off your thermal do-dahs and slip them behind the curtains.
Net curtain springy things a la Westy at the bottom. Cab curtain is one piece hooked behind sunvisors with elastic loops that hook on the coat hooks - again as westfalia did at least early ones. It's shaped into the winscreen so bottom sits on the dash. Inside Outside Closed Cab
So you have the elastic running through the curtain rather than just being tucked in. That's cheaper and easier.
It that plastic covered springy steel coil stuff like bike brake cables but yes, it makes them behave. Springy stuff at the bottom is better than solid which make it hard to open and shut them. I know westy did solid top and bottom just on the rear hatch but I went spring there too. Make a big hem for the top or they won't open so far. I went for 60-70mm top and about 30mm at the bottom. I'd go 40-50 at the bottom if I did it again.
I can't find a pic of mine but I'm sure you've seen them. Sepia maps of the world. Held up with magnets and folded up and stored when not up. I don't like all the fabric gathered around the pilars in the day time
Mine are currently sitting in a bag in the kitchen after a talented mate finally finished them... now Clem is safely returned from a weekend of welding, I'm quite excited to get them hung.... pictures this evening after work
