  1. Sadly not:

On 9 March 2021, a consortium led by TowerBrook Capital Partners (U.K.) LLP and Warburg Pincus International LLC completed the Acquisition of AA Limited (formerly known as AA plc).

So both are now owned by corporate cancers, as are many of the other essential organisations we rely on, some of which we can't do without, or have no choice but to use.

    Bugger.

  3. Very much a private members club back then. I had dinner at the Club house in Epsom(?) early 90s. Nigel Mansell's Williams was parked in the entrance hall, the one he'd just won the F1 title in. I was told off by a member of staff for attempting to take my jacket off during the meal. As everyone knows, jackets stay on until the coffee is served. I remember that plus fours would have been OK, as long as I'd just completed a round of golf.

The only real difference between the RAC and the AA is that the RAC have relatively more subcontractors, and the AA has relatively more employees.
Which can be the difference between waiting 1 hour for the AA and four hours for the RAC.

I’m with Green Flag and can’t really fault them…. it’s almost all sub contractors, but I’ve never waited long to be recovered…..

Now I'm home with a charged phone battery, and feel I can cheat a bit, apparently C, G and H are in fact Charlie, Golf and Hotel, and not Cabbage, Gaviscon and Hari Krishna.

Also I appeared to be missing Iowa, Alaska, Massachusetts, and Oklahoma.

    Easy when you know, eh?

Good that you’re home safely. Is your boss going to ban you from using works vehicles?! :)

No, that's the beauty of it.... as my normal truck is at the garage for a bit of minor surgery still ongoing from last years engine catastrophe, and I've just broken the back up truck, they're going to let me loose on the boss's pick up on Friday!! What could possibly go wrong?

I have charger leads- I use them all the time for the phone, sat nav, iPod etc.... it was the truck battery that was dying! So I couldn't recharge my mobile as its battery faded as well.

  20. Not my pic, but my engine case.
It is the stock 1300 of my 68 beetle. Damaged by an aluminium pulley.
I tried a slip in Empi sand seal pulley kit, which leak directly. I asked a friend if he could machine the case and the stock pulley to adapt a seal, et voilà :)
I rebuild this engine 3 times in a row.
First it gots a slight knock, which came from the taiwan camshaft pulley, it was wrapped. More than 1mm when checked on a lathe and a dial indicator:eek: I finally reused the stock one after having it machined for cam bolts. In fact, that is the best thing to do for a stock rebuild.
Than, lot's of metal in the oil, that came from the Bugpack pulley that damaged the case. It never leaks a drop from the stock pulley:mad:
It is a shame as it otherwise ran perfectly and got in specs oil pressure.
Lesson learned; Triple checking aftermarket parts, or reused good used one.
