if its a true 1970 then the guy's gone to a heck of a lot of trouble moving the fuel filler neck and associated pipework plus mods to the rear to accomodate it.

Okay new front panel and rear corners but the rest....I reckon it being a late 72/early 73 - not a 1970

  5. the ad says Full restoration with photographs email him and ask if you could see some of the chassis change i bet he cant find them

its more than likely tax exempt anyway lol

its going some to do a full chassis swap & stick with the 73 shell - from rebuilding our bays, arent the shell & chassis all as one so to speak

I wonder if she was hoodwinked by a bodyshop that chucked her 1970 bus instead of restoring it and bunged her furniture in a good late shell, swapped the chassis number over, then charged her £15K and said they'd restored it like that because "you can't get the early parts". lol shouldn't laugh...
    Agreed - 72-73 model.

I have ze before pics and the rennovation was mild. It was a 72-73 before hand too, same bus, same colour, same age as it looks now but with matt paint and a few dings. It looks a nice bus. I'd say 73 because it has a hatch above the engine and earlier even with 1700 engines, don't.
I will email back and politely say something similar, but I don't think it's the seller who has renumbered it.

So it's a 73 or they wouldn't have bothered switching chassis numbers.

  15. isn't a bay classed as a monocoque ?

i know it has a chassis but it's welded to the rest of the body

there for the whole body must be used to keep the id

  16. a 1970 Bay is a full-blooded early, so the chassis number wouldn't even be in the same place or shape, nor would most of the engine bay where it is stamped.

Is it not legal to switch numbers? It's been done a lot around this part of Europe, but no one seems to be worried since they are old cars anyway.

  17. Yes, Sven, it is illegal in the UK, as it is tampering with the identity of the vehicle.

Where it has been done to make a vehicle eligible for historic vehicle status (tax free) it is also tax evasion. Where a vehicle is sold on under the new identity by someone who did know or had reasonable grounds to believe the identity has been tampered with, I believe it's also fraud.

  18. RINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. The real issue is the pink container behind the passenger seat ,look at another picture and it has disappeared, vanished into thin air...

    read the numberplate backwards...:D
