Should this be connected?

  1. What's this for and what should it be connected to please?

  2. Its a vacuum feed to that dome on your air intake, it operates the flap valve that directs the air in from below the tinware or straight in through the nozzle. On the side of the filter box itself are two stub pipes, the pipe you are holding goes to one and the other should be connected to a vacuum take off on your manifold. The bit in the air filter box is a thermostatic valve that controls the operation of the flap valve coming into play as an aid for cold running.

  3. Ok,thanks fritt. I can't see anywhere for it to connect to - is it round the back of the?

  4. if you didn't know from the 't' piece at top of photo you should also have pipes connected from fuel tank vents. (petrol whiffs)

  5. Got it - like this?

  6. where does the red coloured braided o_O one go? should be rigid pipe almost to tee piece? like other one.

  7. The one i connected goes to the filter by the dome, the bottom of the T is solid pipe and goes to the air box top left and the right of the T disappears of round the bodywork to the right.......

  8. The one to the right is solid as well...

  9. no sorry take that back off..
from each air intake vent you have 2 pipes coming along back of van, these connect to t piece.
the braided hose goes from where it was on air filter to behind the part to top of carb.
sorry not explaining it well. if you havn't read thread 'why you need to check your breathers' have a look for it

  10. Yeh you should have two off top of airbox, one goes to carb manifold the other to valve as fritt says, the left hand and right rigids go to tee piece then pipe like you have it ie plastic looking one is right to side of air box. Do you get all as fritt says.

Still can't figure out where the short braided one goes (have read the thread noted above) but have found these 2 empty nipples on the back of the filter box.......

maybe this is a Techenders job.

  12. thats more like it.. hose you had in your hand goes to the brighter looking connecter in last photo. on my bus i dont have anything on the other connecter either

  13. Brilliant - thanks all. Off on hols for 2 weeks to IoW, devon and cornwall tomoz so was keen to have it all connected right!!!

  14. Thats right now you need a hose off carb manifold to one of these then hose off the other to air inlet valve sorry wrote pipe instead of hose, then thats them two sorted, id get yourself some better fuel pipe when you have time , braided is not the best .

  15. Thanks - think I'll do a full checkover at Techenders as I also know my fuel filler neck needs replacing.

  16. you should have hoses to those two you dont have anyting too at mo thou , i cant do pics or id show you what i mean .its straight forward . just one hose off one conn to the connection on underside of your air box intake valve the round ting , the other goes to conn on carb manifold simples

  17. hi barney, i dont have any other pipe onto back of airbox just the one from the front to back of filter and no where to connect anything from inlet manifold. seems to be running ok. what probs does it cause

  18. Just like fritt says it operates the air inlet valve its the one that has a little flap inside on the air intake pipe , helps warming / cold starting, it a be ok, just worth fitting if you have hose and inlet valve that works!!

  19. Oh and have a good time on the I.O.W love it their:cool:

  20. There should be a vacuum connection either on the rear of the carb or a little pipe at the base of the inlet manifold. Hopefully these are plugged on your van. If they're not, the engine will run lean (and get hot).
