  1. Right then folks! After changing the dizzy callie has now started and after faffing with the carbs screws she now idles!!!! Is there anyone local to peterborough who I can take her to for a timing and carb tuneup so I know she's running as good as she can??

  2. Are you running a single stock carb?

  3. The carb is a 34pict, I refurb it all during the engine rebuild and have tinkered with it today to get callie idling! I fiddled with the big and small screws on the side!!!

  4. Have you set the throttle stop when warm?, this needs doing first then the mixture, adjust the small screw so it makes the revs rise and continue until it starts to drop again, then go back a turn, then go to the larger screw and adjust the idle back down to 800-900rpm.
Its really simple to do, the key is getting the throttle stop knotched thingy set correctly before doing any fiddling.

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

And before you do anything with the carb, you have to know the valve gaps are correct and the timing.
If you don't know the timing is right, you could wreck your engine on the way to your chosen garage.

  6. Zed, I have set the value gaps when the engine was out so I think they are fine! Not sure how to sort the timing? The notchy thing on the side of the carb how do I set that up???? Are there instructions on Internet?? As always thanks for your help!!

  7. Bought a timing light and callie is now running better than ever!!!! Is 7.5 degrees btdc right for a 1979 type ?? Still not sure if the mixture and idle are right but she sounds great!!!!!! Yay

    Moons and matt like this.
  8. Nice work mate :)

Its generally better to time to 30° max advance rather than fine tuning for exact timing at tickover.
