Half full or half empty; it won't get you a (legit) mortgage as a self employed person with less than 12 months books...

Edit: I should point out that as the mortgage market changes daily, this was only a definite fact on Tuesday of this week.
    ;)

    Sent you some info mate

  6. Tell me about it! We have had 3 months of bank statements forensically analysed by them, I do self-assessment and they wanted to know why there was a big payment going to HMRC at the end of January - you would think people working in the financial sector would know this!!

I feel like every last thing we've ever spent money on has been picked over in some hyper-paranoid frenzy about whether to lend us the money or not. Before the global financial meltdown they would have given a mortgage to my dog, now it's gone so far in the opposite direction that even those of us with solid finances are getting punished for THEIR past mistakes!!!!

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I enquired about a mortgage a few years ago, just for a laugh, and was told £25k max. Meanwhile I've never missed a payment in 20+ years on my self-certified £75K mortgage. The whole system is a joke. Good luck. :)

    Ridiculous isn't it!!

One of the questions she asked was what would/could we do without, to save money..I asked what relevance it had as we could clearly afford the mortgage as it was saving us compared to our outgoings at the date of the final application. She said no relevance, just a question they ask!! About half an hour later, she decided we both didn't have adequate life insurance cover & quoted us £110 for the two of us, the earlier question, with me clicked into place :D

  9. If you can find a good broker, they take the vast majority of the hassle out of the process. And they will have knowledge of available deals that are not accessible by Joe Public.

    Totally agreed mate.
My info didn't come from Joe Public though.

  11. I think the worst part was the level of information they need to be satisfied that your deposit isn't coming from the illicit drugs trade or human trafficking or something like that. Bank statements, full information of where the money came from before it was in that account, certified statements, certified photo ID.........

    Surely that's a good thing?
It's only that they were so lax about it for so long that it seems ott now!

It is a good thing, I agree!!

What did niggle me was the fact we had to justify paying Majors road tax monthly, she said why not annually in a lump sum..answer, my bus, my rules :D  she didn't see the funny side :(

That's the advantage of having an IFA in the family I guess.
I don't have to go through any of that crap!

  15. Theoretically, yes. However, they are going TOO far. The extent to which they are taking these measures is unnecessary and only because they eff'd it up so much before. Therefore WE are paying the price for THEIR mistake.
