Seat belts on r&r bed

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by DaisyJuckes, May 23, 2013.

  1. So how does this work? Do you have to have (legally) a three point thingy seatbelt for each person sat on the bench or can you have a lap belt that goes across the whole thing? Sorry for sounding clueless but trying to sort the bus out so it's ok to take the boys in for the weekend:)

  2. i have 1 3 point belt and 1 lap belt. the mot guy said it was fine last year.

  3. So, without wishing to sound majorly thick here, although I'm sure I will, how does the three point belt fit into the bench? I'm trying to picture it? As with a normal back seat of a car you have the bit that the strap clips into on the seat part.......does this sit in the middle of the bench? Do you have to have the cushion cut away a bit to fit it in? You know, I'm actually cringing with embarrassment at my own question, stop laughing?!!!!

  4. Is it a rock and roll bed?

If you look under the seat at the area that goes onto the engine area, There are mounting points (or should be dependent on van) the seat belts mount to there, then under the rear 2 windows above the doorcards there will be one either side, they hay have bungs in with screw heads on,. there's where you mount the reel for the 3 point.
They should be able to feed through the cushion as theres usually a gap. Best to stick up a few pics.

  5. I can take some pics of mine tomorrow if that helps?

  6. Yes please if that's no trouble!? Thank you!!

Then the 3 point goes just under the window line, Davidoft was selling some brackets to raise the 3 point up higher too as it sits quite low.

  11. No reason why you couldn't just have 2 or 3 lap belts is there?

  12. Suppose its just safer in a crash with 3 point, And its only a small additional cost if the fittings are there,

  13. No legal requirment for belts in the back however i will be fitting lap belts in the rear of my bus

  14. I know in this safety conscious age rear seat belts are preferred but if they're not fitted originally you don't have to have them. Mine has a 3 point on the near side and a lap belt for the position next to the cupboards (being a Devon) only classed as a 2 seater back seat although 3 kids could easily sit on it.
You could fit 2 or 3 lap belts or 2 lap and one 3 pointer or whatever combination you wanted...

I have 2 lap belts, the important thing is to have the seat foam securely fixed to the seat base, so that it can't slip forward and the passenger slide under the belt along with the seat base. I've seen some done with strong Velcro, mine has extra ties sewn into the bottom foam cover that get tied to the seat mechanism.

  16. That's what I was thinking, safety wise but ease and the general lack of passengers in the back I'll be fitting lap belts. :)

And of course, the lap belts will prevent your kids being sucked out of the van when your roof comes off, lol ;)

  19. That is another point, just in case someone does not know.

You do not need to use a seatbelt if not fitted in pre whatever year vans BUTTTT !!!

As soon as a child is in the back, you need seatbelts !! No ifs or maybe !!

  20. Sorry mate, it was just the image you portrayed on explanation today made me laugh! :)
