seat belt question ??

  1. Hi might be a silly question but I have a full width RnR in the back of my 79 devon moonraker with factory welded in nuts for the left and right side seat belts to mount to under the bed area. I hope your following so far... anyway if I want to add a lap belt for a third person to sit in the middle of said full width seat do I just attach both ends to the same mounts ????
Will this be OK mot wise plus how do I then get the bus registered as a 5 seat bus if it is ????
sure one of you will know and help me out

  2. If you look under the seat, you should have further mounting points on the sloping panel in front of the fuel tank. A middle lap belt should fit these.

    Flakey likes this.
  3. finleysdad - I did exactly what you are suggesting. The new lap belt used the bolts towards the middle of the seat where the short end of the existing seat belts are bolted. It is correct I think and has passed a good few mots since I fitted them. Not that anyone's ever lifted the back seat to look.

  4. cheers carry on if I dont have the extra set someone mentioned elsewhere I will go for this option same as you have

  5. If it's a factory window bus it will have 4 mounts in the middle of the rear panel as snotty says, the 2 outer for the outer seat buckles, the 2 inner for the lap belts. Carryoncampers method is a compromise dependent on there not being factory mounts and the weight of the people using the belts. If they're not factory mounts you'll have to satisfy yourself with the quality of the welding. The mounts shouldn't be shared between seat belts and whether it gains an MOT or not isn't an accurate gauge of its suitability or safety
    :)
