Sealing Heat Exchangers

  1. Ok so engine now running and clutch works in spite of all issues. Heat exchangers (new) now blowing at Cylinder Head connections, not yet used exhaust sealant, is that likely the issue??

  2. The gaskets shouldn't leak at the cylinder heads. what type of gaskets have you used. you shouldnt need to use exhaust paste on the cylinder head surfaces.

  3. Hi the heat exchangers are the late ones as per the pic and the gaskets as attached....is there a right and wrong way to fit the gaskets?

  4. Check your old heat exchangers, as the late heads had 2 types of exhaust ports, some like you pictured and the others slot into the head and use a copper ring gasket on each port

I'm sure you would have noticed the difference, but just in case .....

  5. no these are correct its a late 79 bus

  6. As long as they are lined up OK they should be fine either way as they are metal in both sides, I just fitted mine not long ago and they were leaking a bit but I just tweaked them up a bit after I ran the engine for a bit.
