Scrapyard Alternative for late bay seatbelts (Front)?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by vanorak, Sep 22, 2013.

  1. Must've been discussed previously, but has anyone any suggestions for alternatives to Securon seatbelts to replace originals...not grubbed around the scrapyard for a good long while, but there must be a straight swap from something modern...Golf, Seat, whatever?

  2. I do t know what specific ones would fit but really all you need is a right-angled bracket to fix to the wheel tub and fix the new seat belt to it. The only thin you may struggle with is the buckle. Maybe something of of a van with an extended stalk. Just take some measurements and have a looks

  3. Mine came out of written off low mileage Nissan sunny, as did the seats - shows you how long ago I fitted `em ...

  4. Thanks Guys....inertias can be quite touchy as far as the angle of the dangle is concerned....think most folk fit securon as a replacement, but frankly, with several million scrap cars knocking around, I begrudge paying the best part of a £oner for after market belts...when OEM seem to be better quality for a third of the price

Can't help on this tbh because I have never changed any po went to great expense and had all new fitted back and front-

I imagine - if i have to stretch my brain - that type 4s might make a suitable alternative?

    This.
Seat belts and brakes are two areas where I don't try to save money.
It'd be a bit like buying a second hand climbing rope.

  8. Thanks BS...you've given me a great idea...:D

Pkrboo...had a look at the stock replacements from the usual suspects and while I'm sure they comply with all the relevant EC regs , I wasn't overly impressed by the ones I've tried in other folks Buses....sure they work, but they all seemed to be a bit temperamental

maybe to do with how they've been fitted

Tie off one end and use a quick-draw at the other?
Might chaff a bit in an accident!

  10. Wasn't the bondage thread last week?

  11. Nice spot WH....I'll keep my eye on them!

  12. I fitted securon belts in mine and, whilst I agree they don't seem as great quality wise as factory fitted belts in newer cars, have all the correct brackets and most importantly the correct length stalk.l'd imagine that would be a hassle to sort with a secondhand belt too.As A lot of modern cars are fitted with pre tensioners linked to the air bag system any used belt is going to be quite old to get round that.I'm pleased with mine, about £25 each on eBay and feel safer than my frayed old static belts!!
