theres loads already, not appropriate this soon even for me

  5. Now there's a great subject for debate: How soon does humour become acceptable following a tragedy?
When my mate's dad died (at the ripe old age of 48) he legged it round to my house to tell me. When I opened the door, he said "Guess what? Me Dad's dead... He had a brew in one hand and a fag in the other...He was on the 'phone...Like that (and then he did an impression of a dead man holding a 'phone, a brew and a fag at the same time)
We both absolutely p*ssed ourselves laughing.....we cried obviously, after a while, but his initial reaction was to portray it in an entertaining way....I'm not saying the circumstances are the same, but humour's definitely up there in our list of human coping strategies....

Sometimes it's humour which helps you cope. When my Dad was dying of mesothelioma, my brother & I cracked up in the hospital car park. We were standing there having a ciggie with his specialist & thought of the black humour of 3 people waiting for a man to die of a type of lung cancer while chuffing away on known carcinogens

I was listening to it all unfold on five live last night/this morning in my truck. It sounds like the pilot did a controlled landing after engine failure and did a good job except from 500ft and darkness he mistook a flat pub roof for car park. tragic yet an amazing bit of piloting.

  9. Sad but very human:(:D

    Really tragic :(
It's the sort of job that as a firefighter I want to turn up to as that's what my training is for, but never really want to happen if that makes sense?

Ref jokes. Not got any yet, but you know they'll flow in soon.
As was said above. Sick humour is a great coping mechanism, after a nasty fire or rtc humour is generally used to lighten the mood. Only behind closed doors obviously!

We have a pretty black sense of humour on the crash crew, so does Ms.T at the hospital. It's the only way to get through some of the sights we see & have to deal with, but as @dog says it's said behind closed doors & amongst ourselves.

in that case....... no it really is too soon - i got woken by a text off a mate at 1.35 am this morning with a joke about this, i laughed this morning but i thought he was a git at 1.35.

  13. I have a friend who was on the foreign currency trading floor when the shuttle Challenger went down. He says it was less than 30 minutes between the news and the first joke being printed on the news board that went around the top of the room.
