Satellite dishes

  1. There's a sat dish on my house with about 20ft wire coming off it, (I chopped it off as was as annoying me) , it was there when we bought the house 8 yes ago but never used it.
Is it likely to still work ?
    If I get a Freesat box .....

  2. Should do, there was an old one attached to our house when we moved in and I bought a box and tried it and it was perfect. As long as no water has got into the receiver bit in the middle then theres not a lot to go wrong:thumbsup:

Apparently sat dishes are old hat now. I understand sky will not be fitting them anymore as the broadband they supply is good enough to stream everything

  5. Buy a new LNB from ebay (quad will allow 4 channels so 4 boxes or 2 boxes and record) then re fit coax using F connectors and self amalgamating tape to avoid water ingress on outdoor connection! Jobs a good un (cheap sat finders can be purchased online for a couple of quid to ensure its not moved)

  9. Don't get me started on this, I've just changed broadband supplier and TV was a big part of the move as there are several large tree's which we don't own blocking the dish wherever it goes on the house.

Anyway I went to see why I'd heard nothing more about the TV side and apparently its not available in our area  would have been nice if they said that when I placed the order.

  10. You know satellites can see you in the shower? They can.

Swap the cable out to start with and try it. Very unlikely to have moved. The one on my house has been there for 20 years and it still works.

Apparently copper nails kill trees and with the heads cut off (and hit with a punch) soon disappear under the bark so aren’t seen till it’s too late to remove them........so I’ve been told.

For those with trees blocking the view try moving the dish . It does not have to be high up just be able to see the band of sky where all the satellites sit.
Round our way somebody has a dish in a front flower bed. Ours is 8 feet off the ground at the bottom of the garden.

As for joining the aerial wire you may be lucky with chopping back and fitting an F type plug to clean copper, then joining it to some new cable wrap in self amalgmating tape.

Our HD setup came from B&Q for £50 included a dish and box.
Had to join the feed cable as it needed to be lengthened to reach the bottom of the garden.

Line of sight to the sky sat is due south at approximately 45 degrees from horizontal.

Or use this web site and look up 28.2E Astra 2E.

If I want to watch the football my wife has to stand on a chair and the end of the garden with the dish held above her head bless her, it’s alright in the summer but in the winter when she is shivering the picture is a bit distorted,

    I'm told a bit of WD40 helps.
