Rust Treatment ...

  1. So the van's off shortly to have a new interior - and I've taken up the old floor - and found a few small rusty patches. I haven't got time to strip it all back to bare metal but would like to do something to the rusty bits to stop them worsening ... any recommendations? I've seen various products recommended and am looking for something that goes on easy, dries quickly - and works!!

  2. Get some jotun epoxy on it.;)

  3. I've previously used the bilthammer rust converter stuff and then painted over with their zinc based primer

  4. do it one and do it right ....or it will come back sooner rather than later.

you dont have to go mad and bare metal the whole bus if the rust is only in a few patches, if you have any power tools (drill or grinder) then use a wire brush attachment and clean off the rust to as close as shiny metal as you can.

If you havent got power tools then clean up the area as best you can with a wire brush.

once you have done that use a rust converter/killer of your choice, paint it on and allow it to dry/cure/work. Some of these treatments may require rinsing off or wire brushing so read the instructions and follow them :)

once you have treated the rust....give it a coat of paint :) (lots of different products to choose from)

if you just paint over the top of rust....it will return stronger than ever :D

  5. ^this. If you don't get rid of it, it'll keep rusting. Rusty bits back to bare metal, splosh some stabiliser (like Jenolite) on, then paint the affected bits.
