... especially living 20 meters from the sea. Picked up Pinky this eve from Birdys Buses where she had her MOT. She passed - but before driving home Stu showed me the underside of Pinky and where she is starting to fall to bits. I knew there were some rust spots on the side that were getting worse - but I had no idea of the horrors that lived below. Long story short - she will need a fair bit of work in the autumn of this year to stop her becoming holy and then she can be undersealed. This is not something I had really planned for over the next few years and what with one thing or another finances are tight - but I will find a way to ensure that Pinky stays part of the family and does not rust away. Living by the sea has not helped - the acceleration of rust is quite remarkable compared to last year. I guess what this means is that come autumn she will have the welding done and a few new panels here and there ... I may even go for broke and get propex fitted at the same time. I drove home this eve in two minds - the start of the journey I was questioning the owership of a campervan - the maintenance cost, road tax, petrol etc and thought about selling her. But I could not help but smile as I drove along and cannot wait for the summer - and next summer and the summer after that ... I want Pinky to become a real family retreat and have her for weekends away with Mrs Marowak and Dylan. So - over the next few years I see Pinky changing - she may look patchy in parts - she may even end up a totally different colour in years to come. So if you see her at a show looking a bit old and tired - remember she is 40 soon and all she needs is a big hug (and a few grand ) ....
I know what you mean Dan. OSI needs some work done soonish, sea air & 40+ year old vehicles are not a good mix.
yeh it finds away ive got some bits need attention but they wont get done this year , i wana just try and have some fun this year, not stuck on my poxy no good back looking at its arass. No how you feel dan but at least youve got a years mot and is running ok onward n upward
Dropped Wombat off yesterday for some work on a couple of bubbly patches, and that is after a supposed bare metal respray less than 3 years ago My aim is to treat each bit as it appears. Underneath is actually looking pretty good - just been cleaned off and waxoyled. I guess it is just part of the package that comes with ownership.
Took mine along to a local welder for a quote yesterday. Part of the work quoted was new rear corners. He said You may as well have new battery tray at the same time it will save you in the long run. Ok I said I think mine are in quite good nick but I see your point. Later that day I put a new main battery in and accidentally stuck my finger straight through the battery tray creating a 50p size drain hole..... Oh how I laughed lol
Tis the joys of Bay ownership, but there are very few vehicles that you can still drive around mid resto and people still smile and wave at you, some new metal here and there and patchy paint and is all you have to do is call it rat look
I love the idea of an (non ruusty) rat look van ... maybe in the future pinky will have that look about her .... I am going to start saving up and get her 'touched up' in autumn ...
i wouldn't underseal anything if there are slight signs of rust personally, rust isn't stopped by underseal it just hides and gets worse.
