Running rich petrol coming out of exhaust

  1. Any ideas people

  2. is it definitely running rich or just throwing unburnt fuel out of the exhaust?

  3. Is it a sickly sweet smell? Choke coming off correctly?

It's water coming from the exhaust, what makes you think it's running rich ?

  5. get it sorted cause it will wash oil away from your cylinders

  6. I have this sort of smell ,its been off road over the winter so ive started kicking it in regular just lately and tonight this smell was there.Whats it mean or is it because its not been run .

  7. I was getting a whiff of petrol from mine on start up. Took it down to a carb specialist in Lincoln to set up the idle circuit. One side was running lean with lots of unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust. Now richer, but less unburnt fuel. It's not necessarily rich if you can smell petrol in the exhaust, but it's definitely not right.

  8. Oil and petrol are both hygroscopic....if you leave the bus standing for a few months, with fuel and oil in it, both will be contaminated....smell of fuel in the cab usually implies the breather hoses for vapour return to the tank are perished, the filler neck is cracked/porous, or the tank is leaking into the compartment, either from corrosion, or weeping fuel hose on the outlet....you'd see tide marks around the spigot if you look underneath....
Obviously, any leaking hoses in the engine bay would account for fuel smell.

As mentioned , old fuel smells differently to fresh....
