We are trying to work out how we are going to put 2 13" kayaks on the roof of our 1974 poptop Devon,,,,, any ideas folks,,,
halfords used to sell all the roof rack parts seperatly ie brackets and bars. if you could get two sets of tall brackets like the one needed for old escort vans, and a pair of bars wide enough, could you put one in front of the pop top, one behind, then something just to support the kayak in the middle over the pop top? you should be able to find plenty of brackets to fit the gutter on a bus. does this help at all?
I had a little bat kayak a few years back, I bought one of them transit van type roofracks to carry it on, it's not that cool but did the job
That one I had sank off the Gower coast when the big waves came over, it dint have any buoyancy aids in it I was about two hundred yards out and nearly drowned
Halfords can defo sort it, but they may not carry what you need. They do a commercial range which will do it, I looked into it a few years back. Have you got a Thule dealer nearby other than them though? Might be cheaper? Thule do a foot that fits the gutter and will sit high enough to clear most of that poptop iirc - you couldn't carry the kayaks on their side though...
We done the same as woodylubber got some high fitting bars from halfrauds £100 I believe, Only trouble you have to remove to put top up, did see some where you can get some that screw to the side of the roof, Steve,
Hibiscrub - that setup won't allow the top to pop... I have a Westy too, have Yakima widebody brackets on it. Stock roof bars/feet fit and allow roof up without removal. I did post a pic thinks ago, prior to one of the crashes, not sure it still exists
