Rolling road should i do it

  1. Do you think a rolling road would sort out my issues ie overheating/loss of power ,or is good money after bad ,
if i get time later im going to check the timing and have have a look for loose connections etc . but the problem is you never quite know if its been sorted .

  2. Check air filter, air inlets, fan housing/thermostatically controlled air baffle plates, the fan, engine out, idle, carb, dont spend good money on a power test,do that when your engine is running sweet.

  3. ^you need to check all of the basic stuff if you genuinely are overheating. A rolling road won't help. Ignition timing, air leaks, thermo flaps, lumps of foam in fan, etc.

Again, if it's all standard I don't see any point in rolling road. Also if it was fine until recently, there's a problem.
If you have points, they can wear and shift the timing a few degrees. Could be that simple. Or your fuel filter is a bit clogged. You really need to do a thorough service plus iron out air leaks etc before you take to a rolling road or they'll be wasting their time and your money + that might sort it out anyway. I think you said you were going to book it in pronto? Good idea I reckon. :)

There were good points also made on your other thread about loose electrical connections on the carbs or the coil. My 1700 at one point used to start spluttering after about 10 miles and it was a loose connector on a shut-off solenoid. Same thing on the choke would cause the choke to come back on.

  6. took mine to rolling road in sheffield, best 72 quid i ever spen, (more work was required in terms of re jetting my carbs, and a bit more, total was 140 but the difference that its made is more that worth it, turns out i had no fuel pressure in one of my carbs = half the power, well pleased afterwards! check all the above and if undiagnosed id do it!

  7. If only this happend last week when i didnt have much work on , and now this week and next im flat out . the only day they can fit me in on the rolling road this week is friday and then the next slot is april 9th , which is after spring camp . I intend to go over all the points mentioned above but i cant get to the garage for friday

more hours in the day please and thanks for all your comments
