It works but you have to proper give it some to get it to close properly.
Sneaking into the van at 04:00 whilst not waking everyone on the campsite is a near impossibility!
I've seen some of the ones you've worked your magic on at TE and its like they have silk runners!

  4. Mines the one that doesn't split so only uses two hinges as apposed to the four of the split bed type

  7. I see, that's not actually that bad tbh (taking up space I mean) there is a version with a split seat that uses two sets which is what I was referring to.

  8. Yeah I've seen them
They use the same hinges but four of them and there's next to no storage space

  9. another thumbs up from me for the rusty lee bed, used to have a hinged jobby, which was an absolute pain to fold in/out, so bad in fact, just left the bed In the down position, full width now, and it is a one handed operation, but that one para has looks pretty good..

    I was ;)
& then sold the remainder of the (40) year old tat for a nice profit. Yay!

What Westy/separate hinges do allow you to do is to customise the width of the bed anywhere from about 12 inches to a full width. Handy when contemplating a full re-design of an interior meaning you're not tied to what a bed maker thinks is an appropriate width or length...

  11. Don't fall out with that fella, and if you already own a westy or have the bits it's a no brainer. I was purely defending rusty beds from the negative vibes. If you have a dodgy back then maybe a rusty isn't for you, if you don't then  Each to their own I guess, it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.

  12. The beds seem good but as long as everybody says they are perfect they wont get developed in any way. The market is there for a proper latching rock and roll bed I would think but either suppliers are lazy or, which is probably more the case, no one asks for it because, as demonstrated here they don't know any different. ie they need a bed so probably don't have one. Also they need to be adjustable to allow for different sizes of units to be installed.

So.. not slagging em off here. Just they could be better, and if they were I might even buy one!

Fall out with what Chris? No offence meant, just offering the obligatory other view;), whilst laughing at myself for paying what we thought at the time was a daft amount for a set of hinges &, seriously, what appeared to be a pile of tat.
It turned out, luckily for us, the the old Continental interior had been badly painted & the laminate underneath was almost pristine. It went for good money...

I've never had a Rusty Lee bed so have no opinion to view & certainly not a negative one.

We're actually considering a fixed type bed frame for the T3.

  14. Is yours an ex panel van

  15. I have one in mine. I've never slagged it off...but I still hold with my original beef that the supports can easily damage whatever you pack under the seat, unless you make allowances....hence why I think the og devon pull out is a better design...the supports fold flat...it took me about an hour or so to convert my RL so the supports can be folded out of harms' way....why RL doesn't make them like this I don't know....If he did, I'd recommend them all day for the money

  16. T25s normally have a lower rear cargo bed height than a bay, By about 4 inches. I've always thought r+r beds weren't necessary and a slide forward folding bed would be more appropriate as it can all be the same height. It reduces the boot area but means the actual seat can be significantly further to the rear giving a larger floor space. I don't think that's the case with a synch though!

I also think I need to get out more!

I'd be looking at the Rusty Lee beds if I decide to change mine for a full width.
Can you do them with folding bed supports @Rusty Lee?

To fit a rusty lee bed
    1 Remove all of interior
2 remove engine and gear box
    3 remove running gear
4 sand paint work down to bare metal
    5 rewire bus
Then it's a matter of fitting the bed then replace everything
    it's as simple as that

Interesting observation. Under the seat on this thing is an Eber, the rear heater fan & matrix plus the MV engine ECU. So scrap that whole area for storage!
I'm actually planning a fully fixed, i.e. permanent, bed. We're not bothered having a R&R or slidey bed & will sacrifice floor space for the convenience of having it made up.
It does mean I will have to build some over-engine storage, plus some sort of side cabinetry to store all me bits & bobs.
The plan is to come up with a design for the bed, maybe with under runners for sliding locker storage, so it can be fabricated in a metal frame & simply bolted in. Foam slapped on top & away we go. We'll see!

BTW, we all need to get out more;)

  20. is there any mileage in doing a narrow boat style pull out?

just thinking it'd be nice to have the space if you needed it....
