Rise of the T5 !!

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

When comparing badly maintained old bangers with nearly new ones, surprise, surprise the new one comes out tops.

Personally I don't wonder if I'll make it or have to drive slowly. It's comfortable, relaxing to drive and people talk to me whenever I stop (since I've had one with shiney paint, curtains and a poptop).

I also get into "full" campsites regularly and seem to get away with £6-8 a night regularly as well. It's easy to park, goes up in value and most crucially is not an overpriced clone builders van. :)

I'd still have a bay and my t5 if I could but I can't afford both , still love a bay, would still have another if I could, ideally I'd like a bay for odd nights and a coach built fiat/or sukiyaki for nice hols

Nor me, sold bay spent the lot on newest I could, doing the conversion as I go.

  6. My 'modern' daily car has broken down more than my bay has and its generally more expensive to repair than my bay.
Many of us on here have bays that are good for long trips and are actually used for long trips.
My bay has delivered me in style and comfort to loads of destinations this year alone.
I'm happy for those of you with more modern vehicles and see some of the advantages and benefits such as MPG......
......but this is the late bay forum and it is wrong to suggest that bays can't do longer trips.
We should be encouraging each other to get our bays in the best condition we can and to get out and explore this beautiful world in them!

I'm saying this despite my bus being very temporarily out of action

    Big up the bays!

I do miss being waved at :) maybe I'm just shallow . I'm going to go and pour steering box oil in now and see if it all comes out the other end. If not, I'm going to drive round until someone waves at me :) (even if I have to wave first)

    well said @paulcalf !

The sensible thing for camping & holidaying & doing the shopping run is a modern vehicle.
But for us it's all about the bay!
Not just the destination, but the journey as well...plus all the issues a journey may or may not present!
A way of life I guess, for now.

What I do get is that for all the ribbing etc. all the T5 owners I know on here love a good bay & their enthusiasm helps keep us all going:thumbsup:

Anyway, what do we know. We run a Syncro as a daily!

  12. My wife chose to use the bus to go Disneyland in April as it's more reliable that her focus (which is currently off the road so my bay (after a 2286 mile road trip) is currently our daily for her work to lol

  13. yes exactly

My clutch cable broke on Isle of Wight (last yr) - fixed for less than a £100 and holiday continued.
A bloke in a Corsa, wipers went at the same time - cost to fix £400 plus waiting for a day for the part to come from the mainland

Indeed, I did say that Sandybay and the Daisy clan had been on long trips in their bays. I loved Sickbays blog about his trips abroad. However, my experience of long trips in our bay; ok we got down to the Jura in France, but it was a long trip, even breaking it up as we did, and we got home, just about, limping a bit, so lucky we didn't get stranded in France. Next year, Norfolk, another long trip from where we are, I lost a day I should have been spending with my family trying to get an issue fixed on the bay (sorted thanks to some top notch tips on here mind ). It's been ok on the short camping trips, but a worry and a pain on the longer hauls. Some have had worse luck with their Bays, some better. The following year we got our (Early)T5 :D. Bit of a wake up call for me, for us even, best thing camping wise we ever did (short lived as our T5 adventure was :().

And sure, it is the Late Bay, but it's the General board, there's no end of stuff chatted about on here that has zero relation to Bay Window Campers, so I'm sure a few T5 threads now and then don't do any harm eh?
