Ah - that's sad - took my kids to see him when he visited Martin Mere ( just a couple of miles up the road ) a few years ago - he signed a book for us
Sad loss. Lots of laughs doing impressions of him in my youth. 'Look at all these cweepy crawlies wummaging around in here...!' Did some excellent kids programs.
Read his autobiography a few years back, it’s a good read. Sad they pilloried him for global warming....his field of expertise was lichen, moss and peat bogs....all of which can give indicators for 10s of thousands of years on climate. His statement wasn’t that climate changes, he could prove that from his work, it was that it was hard to attribute it to man alone when it was obvious it changes all the time. Still, another esteemed scientist is ignored by the ill informed bulldozer of climate evangelists.
