Right indicator and left tail light

  1. Hello,

got a problem with my left tail light not working, and the right indicator not working. The right indicator flashes fast on the dash but doesn’t come on. I’ve been reading on here and assume it’s the earth connections? I’ve tried different bulbs and that doesn’t make a difference.

Am I right in thinking this is the left and right earth connections for the rear lights? If so shall I clean with some wd40 or something?

    Thanks in advance

  2. They are the earth tabs for the rear light clusters. Pull the connectors off and give them a light sanding. Don’t use WD40 - it won’t do anything apart from making an oily mess.

Might not solve your problem, tho’

Earth connections are a good place to start

  4. As a complete novice, are there ones to check in the front as well?

  5. The left hand rear tail light is on a separate circuit to the fronts and rear right, so that could be a fuse (no.1), a bad earth or the bulb. Do you have a meter? If so it's easy to check if power is getting to it. It's a grey and black wire I think. The bulb is a twin filament jobby shared with the brake light which has a black/red wire.

Indicators flashing double speed usually indicate a bad earth or a blown bulb. Are both bulbs off or just the rear? The earth could be bad at back or front if both are off.

Its often the case that the earth leads get knocked off on the back - the tags are just to the left and the right of the engine hatch. Lightly sand the tags on the bus body, maybe give the spade connectors a light squeeze.

Bulb holders can corrode often the spring touching the back of the bulb can be too corroded to make contact so changing the bulb has no effect.

  7. Switched the bulb for the tail light but it had no effect. I did try the fuses but I mistakenly thought no.2 was the rear tail, so I’ll check that tomorrow and fiddle with the earth.

the indicator is just the right rear one. Again, changed the bulb but didn’t have an impact so could be the connections. I’ll give them all a clean tomorrow. Best thing to do is sand them, even the earth connectors on the body? Thanks all, it’s good to learn. Nervous with electric stuff but need to learn it all, have to try and re fit the cigarette lighter at some point too

  8. Just to update, I managed to fix this! Thank you for the replies. I cleaned all the connections and hey presto! Confidence boost to actually fix something :)
