Restoration of Trigger

  1. Trigger is a 73 Devon bodyshell, with dash electrics and 1600 engine/ box from a 79 commercial (hence Trigger!)

Needed a bit of work when I got her a couple of months ago, but is now at the point of being able to fit out the internals - ordered from Vanwurks.

Have had some electrical fault- tracing and non-starting help from Ben at Airdubs in Somerset too - he’s a great bloke if anyone needs and mobile help in the South West

    Anyway - photos below.... 2a5846b7-e746-4d02-b1b6-e02212aebf6d.jpg IMG_3350.jpg IMG_3375.jpg IMG_3457.jpg IMG_3806.jpg IMG_3810.jpg IMG_3809.jpg IMG_3808.jpg

  2. One question I’ve got though - I’d like to upgrade the struts in the roof - any idea how? IMG_3841.jpg IMG_3842.jpg IMG_3843.jpg

  3. Cool. They should do the trick. Any idea how you fit them?

I was hoping to put a solar panel on the Devon roof - so any idea how I could uprate it to take another 12kg?

  4. They’re the same ones supplied with the roof cap kit, not sure on the weight loading.

Fitting them is easy with some good friends not afraid of prolapse or hernia! :D I think they come with instructions too :)

  5. Just Kampers sell a roof cap which weighs about 900kg so that's why they sell the uprated springs.

12kg seems heavy for a solar panel?

  6. It’s a 150w glass panel, so with frame etc, comes in about 12kg, give or take

If I’m lucky, the new springs will be enough to lift the lot - otherwise the solar panel will be going on a set of roof bars on the front of the van

Be careful with the updated springs, they’re Marmite, and can’t adequately lift a roof with a roof cap, got the T-shirt for time wasting with that one! Possibly a way forward is to add a spacer/packer into the tube, though I’ve not tested this myself yet... I’m still working on getting gas struts to assist.

Best way to remove them though is by using small ratchet straps to pinch the tension allowing you to undo the grub screws in the support tubes, full face mask is optional!

  9. Slowly getting there - have a fair bit of filling to do on the rear pass side wing - looks like the welding had been done by a blind man facing the other way!

    Interior is due this week....

  10. Just the one photo tonight.

VanWurks interior landed at 5:30pm. Unwrapped by 6pm.

Fitted, 12v wired in and time for beer at 10pm.

Inverter wired up - only hardwired 240v to do tomorrow, then off for test camping trip!

    Officially knackered!
