Restoration of Dormobile Crossover.

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Dancorns, Jul 4, 2014.

  1. Hi guys.
I am new to this forum. I was advised to come on here by Poptop2 who assured me that it was a very welcoming and helpful forum:). He also said that it did not matter that I had an "early" bay (72 crossover) that people would just take the mick a bit :).

So, the story is that I have just got hold of a 72 dormobile crossover. She is a bit of a mess cosmetically but structurally pretty solid. She has holes in all major panels but has a solid floor/chassis and an almost immaculate interior.

I am on the hunt for any panels or parts that may be useful for this project. The hope is that, once completed, the family will take the bus on a historical tour of the UK, visiting interesting and significant sites in chronological order. It was my 7 year old son's idea and sounds pretty awesome!

    So...here she is!

  3. Welcome dude, gen up as much as you can on crossovers before you buy anything, some parts come straight from an early and some are one year only....but most of all enjoy :)

  14. Good luck, dormobile roofs are one of the best (I'm biased though because I have one:thumbsup:)

Hope you have deep pockets though, plenty to do there!

  15. Thanks for the encouragement guys!! Can't wait to get stuck in. What do we think about the front arches though? Flat or stepped?

I think 72's had flared arches. In fact I am sure they should be flared on yours.

  17. I have a 72 cross over and it has flaird front arches with early step in side

  18. Would I be committing some heinous crime if I fitted flat arches? Also, which rear corners do I need. I saw ones date to 71 then 73 onwards. ......

  19. It's your van you can do what you like, but they shouldn't be flat for correct purpose. And you should fit 73 on corners hope this helps. But remember it's your van so it's original or your own take on things it up to you.

  20. Excellent! Thank you. Think I am starting at the front and working back. Needs new front panel, the dash bit up to the windscreen, partial cab floor and arches.
