Repro seals vs original 'best quality', anyone had any luck with budget options?

  1. Hi all,

My cab door seals are knackered and I'm needing some replacements. As a student straight out of uni with many grands worth of student debt hanging above me and a very unhealthy current bank balance I am looking favourably on the budget repro quality seals for the doors, with C&C ones coming in at £31 for both, whereas the grey german quality ones are £50 something each. I have read a lot of 'buy cheap, buy twice' comments regarding door seals. Just wondering if anyone at all has had any success with the budget ones or if I will need to fork out £100 to have a dry cab!

    Thanks,
    Stratts

  2. The cheap ones will keep the water out but you wont be able to shut the doors

"Buy cheap buy twice" definitely applies to door seals.
If you buy the cheap ones your doors won't close...

  5. Fair enough, looks like I'll go with the proper ones for this! Doors already require a bit of a shouldering to get the catch to close so chunky seals aren't a good shout. Thanks for the advice! Shame C&C only have the left side ones available right now, might have to wait and get them when both available, no point paying postage twice.

I'm pretty sure I have a pair of new grey ones

  7. Er, I don't know if it's something to do with how my doors have been repaired in the past, but I fitted the quality grey seals and they just wouldn't shut properly.

Fitted the cheapo ones and, although not absolutely perfect, I can shut (and open) the doors and they do a good job of keeping the rain out!

Just my 'unique' doors I guess.

    It's not.
With seals; buy cheap buy twice.

  18. Was talking to Brazil bay owner over the weekend and he told me he had enough of trying to shut the drivers door without the window breaking, which had happened three times! He had trading it in for a T6, loves the reliabilty but misses the look of the type 2's.
