Hi, New to the forum and looking at buying myself a Late Bay... I have a few lined up to view in the coming week, but the one tomorrow is in my price range (good) but apparently doesn't have a heater (bad). The ducting behind the dash is present apparently, and also the heat exchangers around the exhaust, and all the cables... but the Y-piece and the main pipe were badly corroded, removed, and not replaced. Should I be looking at this van or just strike it off the list? Is it a do-able job for either me (no welding ability) or a suitable garage? Help. Don't want to buy the bus thinking it's an easy fix, only to find I'm stuck with no heating forever.
just get a propex heater or eberspacher you can chase your tail for months trying to sort the original stuff out
it's a straightforward job to replace both, although the Y piece can be a bit fiddly....new centre pipe will set you back around £30...y piece not sure...couple of threads on here regarding this very job.... not enough to walk away from the bus if the rest is in good nick....good luck
My internet research thus far mentioned removing the floor (eek)... I'll have a search through the previous threads on here. Thank you.
Can be replaced with big hose if needed so easy fix or as said before just fit after market heating, be toaste warm when ever you want all year round.
Reading other threads it seems to be the Y-piece that causes the problems, fitting it but also finding one now as no one appears to make replacements. After market heating is looking more appealing.
