replacement of steering swivel pin

  1. there is a knocking at the front of my bus when travelling over rough surfaces or when there is a lump of tarmac missing from the road, etc.

think I may have found the problem as when you jack the front wheel up and move it from side to side the knocking seems to be coming from play in the swivel pin in the middle of the beam, so I assume the buses are knackered - you can see the pin moving up and down as you rock the wheel and when it comes down the swivel pin clamp bangs on the top of the swivel pin assembly.

I see GSF do a swivel pin kit for £21 - is this likely to be a straightforward job which I could do myself with the beam still on the bus and do I need any special tools?

Also, would I be better off buying a better kit than the GSF one?

Any tips or suggestions gratefully received.

    Thanks.

There's a thread on here. Search "idler pin"

  3. ^what Baysearcher said. Couple of good recent threads on here.

Worth buying, begging or borrowing the eBay tool to pull the bushes out (see threads). Makes it a half-hour job.

  4. does anyone around the Solihull area have such a tool I could borrow for the job by any chance?

The pin bushes may well need doing, but the knocking you describe is a worn ball joint or very worn shock bush.
