When I take the arm off my steering box in the next episode of 'battle of the bushes' I will take some pictures of the three leg puller I use and how I put it on and how it stays on.

It only just fits with one arm wedged by the end of the heater tube. In another mode it can spread wide enough to grip the outside of the flywheel and allow me to gently wind it off the dowel pins which are a permanent fixture in my crank.

The ends of the legs on this are angled so that the tips bite into the arm.

The hydraulic type also come with decent sized arms to take the load.

  2. Thanks @zedders - will give that a go

  3. @Midedjames - the puller I was using originally is more or less the same as that - and I used it to pull the flywheel of also.
    Looking forward to your tutorial!
