How do I remove the battery safely so I can get to the battery tray to assess rust from the inside?

Also, any ideas how I remove this bumper? It has electrical wiring for the additional lights. Not sure of the best way, to remove the fewest screws & cause the least hassle!

    Cheers

  2. Disconnect the earth terminal (braided strap) of the battery first, then the +ve terminal then undo the small nut all the way at the base of the battery to remove it totally.

Support the bumper under something like a pair of padded axle stands, then undo the bolts between the chassis and the bumper irons (you can just about see one in the last picture by the wiring hanging down).

And when you refit the battery connect the +ve terminal first, then the earth terminal (braided strap).

  5. Yep - it's a bit a struggle to slide the battery out once disconnected but yours looks relatively small - so you should be able to lift it up to clear the tray edge and then slight it out over the bumper - being careful not to drag any leads out with it.

  6. If you can get a second pair of hands to hold the undone side of the bumper while you undo the other, it helps.

  7. If you remove that manky-looking insulating tape, you'll probably be able to disconnect the lights.

once you have loosened the 4 bumper bolts to near fully ...just hold the bumper up with your knees then fully undo them .

  9. ^ further to this ..... remain in that position until help arrives in the morning
