It's all good making them look nice, but it's any corrosion inside the small passages that will screw up the carbs from working. Hopefully your ultra sonic cleaner sorted that out.

  3. my little Honda carb yesterday in the ultrasonic bath .. ( the one I spec’s to fit to Dell36 carbs )

  4. I will give the malvern place a try and review it.
As soon as people come up be behind my bus they want to overtake it. Doesn't matter if I'm wayover the speed limit. They just cant stand it.
If I had a better running bus...
Anyways other people might not use full throttle, I do and with 4x 32mm chokes.
I would keep that duffer in a Honda alongside!
In a stock 1600 beetle CB kits would use 34mm chokes. Depends how you drive ~you can have one set up in dell's 4 track/ bolt another down graded t' church sundy.

Bigger chokes won't help in any way whatsoever on a stock cam bus. They will just make it run worse at lower revs.
For example - my 2020cc type-1 with a Scat C35 cam revved off the rev counter with 30mm venturis.
Another example - my stock cam 2.4L type-4 won't rev any higher with 34mm venturis than it does with 30's.
If you want more power, change the cam to make it more efficient at higher revs
If you want more torque build it bigger.
Farting about with carbs won't really help because the stock ones already provide what the engine can cope with.

  6. Carb is back from being blasted. It has some pitting and some staining as you can see:

Gave it a rinse and an airline through then popped back into the ultrasonical cleaning device:

Time to test fit some parts:

The spindle is smooth like butter now:

Using all new bearings, nuts and screws for the butterflys (with threadlock of course):

All the other components will go again. I'll do a tally of cost so far shortly but bear in mind the Beetle these came off 10+ years ago was a complete car with a 1679 engine for £300. Ah, those were the days.

  8. @Zed words are ringing in my ears. Still needs to operate despite making them look nice.

Is it possible to bench test a single carb?

  9. Not really. Slap them on the engine

  10. I've done a dry build (no gaskets) to see if all the parts are still present after all this time (Im still waiting on a few bits):

It was very satisfying dropping the ball bearing and then this part in:

Can anyone say whether the second small hole (below the top hole) should be blocked up? Is there some kind of movable plug in there?
