Recommendation for engine internals suppliers

  1. Hi all

Looks like I need a few innards for my Type 4/2lt (probably camshaft & cam bearings) but seems to be a lot of chat about the poor quality of parts, so any bulletproof recommendations on manufacturers or suppliers before I commit to buying?

  2. i think most cam 'blanks' come from the same place its what they do (and you during after insall) with it that changes. I like Webcam but had to import (aircooled.net) last time as all the ones here were hydraulic grinds if you asked. Used CoolairVW before too. Mahle / Silveline / KS bearings dont think there's much difference but others might think different..

Manufacturers: The best cams and followers are Web Cams http://www.webcamshafts.com/. Silverline cam bearings are generally as good as any others and their main bearings are generally better than most, big ends maybe not so good. There are no ‘bulletproof’ bearing manufacturers these days, you pay your money and hope you’re in luck.

Suppliers: Not much difference, I buy from wherever has what I want in stock and if two suppliers have what I want I buy the cheapest. And I generally avoid JK unless I’m certain what they sell is from the manufacturer I want. Jim at Stateside Tuning will usually have, or be able to get, whatever you want for a Type 4 but he’s not cheap (or user friendly).
