Rustoleum do one that I use on our baths claw feet....available from any DIY store... if they were open .....ebay ?
It’s for the plastic spot light grills on the 914 . Originally they were chrome , either going black or chrome
There's a good video on YouTube where the guy compared loads of different brands of chrome spray paint. I seem to remember some obscure American brand won, so I couldn't source it very easily. But it certainly looked close to a mirror finish.
Can't remember how much proper chroming is , but it's all about preparation which takes the time and cost . You can do a lot of the fine rubbing down yourself before sending to the chrome dippers . Chrome finish is only as good as the preparation, chrome is just a cover .
They are PLASTIC and they are like £400 for new repo ones .. I repaired the original broken plastic ones .. I’m sure someone used a chrome aerosol and recommend it on here before
Oh sorry my mistake ....i would think the more you pay the better the product ...there are loads out there .
@lhu1281 i looked into this in the past as my original plastic headlight surrounds are pitted and scuffed. It all seemed to point to the fact that even if you got a great finish when you sprayed it, it goes dull pretty quickly. Could try clear coat if it doesn’t react with the chrome but I don’t think anything beats the chrome plating process on plastic, if you can find anyone to do that though it would probably be expensive!
I was thinking of using this for exactly the same application. Don’t be put off by the name, it is silver. I used it for the reflectors in the rear light clusters and was pleased with the finish. I’d be interested in what you end up using!
Of course if you wanted an actual metal plating that is possible....if you use conductive paint you can electro plate it with nickel...
Nothing that says chrome in a spray tin from motor factors lasts outside or looks chrome. Wasted money. Still my Xmas decorations will get a facelift...pinecones galore. Only chance is what paint factors supply to wheel refurbishers... next will try wrapping with film.
Tried some simonez I think, on our front badge, utter crap went dull when it was cleaned and polished. This was quite a few years ago and hopefully spray is better quality. Speak to a motor paint factors may be an idea. Sent from my SM-A405FN using Tapatalk
